![]() Identifying Grips Using a Pressure Profile ![]() A recent US-funded, worldwide research effort examined ways of producing "Smart Guns" capable of recognizing the user and only allowing authorized use. Nomics, a Belgian company, wished to examine a shooter’s grip as an identifying feature, and with PPS technology, they were able to do so. Instrumenting the handle of a handgun posed many technical challenges due to the complex shape required. Using our TactArray technology, PPS molded a 16x16 conformable tactile array to cover the entire grip area. A simple T2000 system provided data collection and visualization capabilities. Nomics continues to develop and refine the tactile grip approach for its client, but PPS technology holds many other potential applications for the field of security.
