Providing Safety Data at Over 180 MPH

World-class motorcycle racers depend on leather racing suits as their primary means of protection while barreling down MotoGP racetracks at speeds of over 180mph. But when a leading manufacturer of motorcycle safety apparel needed to know more about their suits' real-world performance, they turned to PPS.

Our client needed sensors that were rugged enough to survive the impact of a crash at high speeds, flexible enough to be unaffected by the rider's natural movements, and dynamic enough to capture the wide range of forces that could be seen. PPS engineers developed an all-purpose impact sensor based on our C500 that could be used interchangeably on the elbows, knees, shoulders, hips, chest, and back. Integrated into a one-piece leather racing suit, the 15 ConTacts tactile pads and accompanying data acquisition equipment were virtually unnoticeable to the rider.
