![]() An Advanced Esophageal Catheter Sierra Scientific Instruments took advantage of PPS's high-resolution pressure sensing capabilities to take a quantum leap forward in gastrointestinal physiological diagnostic equipment. SSI's ManoScan 360 uses an advanced tactile sensing system developed specifically by PPS for Sierra Scientific. PPS spent 2 years developing a circumferential pressure sensor suitable for measuring the pressures applied by muscles in the GI tract. As the basis of the ManoScan 360, the 36-element catheter provides spatial resolution of nearly 10 times that of the previous state-of-the-art. SSI holds an exclusive license from PPS for the use of this innovative sensing technology and is currently exploring new products to exploit the novel capabilities of PPS's tactile sensing. Dr. Sushil K. Gupta, Chairman of the Department of Surgery at the Guthrie Clinic , stated after observing ManoScan in operation: "This is going to rewrite the textbooks on GI manometry." FDA approval for the ManoScan 360 was obtained in January 2004.
