Successes in the Automotive Industry

Using our customized industrial-tactile sensors, customers around the world are gathering valuable data on contact pressures in a number of demanding automotive applications. Our sensors' rugged materials withstand intensely high pressures and temperatures, while the ultra-thin construction allows for integration into extremely tight fit areas.
Two of our most recent solutions for the automotive industry include the Dynamic Tire Tread Measurement System and the Dynamic Brake Pad Measurement System. Both systems are ahead of the competition in their ability to collect data during operations at high speeds and temperatures. Read more about these powerful systems below.
Data from these systems are conditioned using PPS Interface Electronics and our Chameleon software, which provides synchronized video and data collection for documentation, extraction and detailed analysis.

Measuring tire footprints and their distributed contact pressures under motion is no easy feat---but PPS has a solution. Our industrial-grade sensors are proven to have the speed, resolution, and ruggedness for this demanding application. PPS tire footprint sensors feature auxiliary analog inputs capable of reading position encoder or accelerometer data to correlate the type of motion with the tactile data. And they can be configured to fit tread widths for nearly any size vehicle.

Assessing brake pad design and performance has long challenged automotive engineers due to the absence of detailed data on contact pressures during actual braking. PPS industrial sensors can be embedded into the brake pad, where integrated temperature sensors combined with our advanced software can correct for extreme temperature changes during deceleration. Now you can measure dynamic tactile pressure distributions between brake pads and other wear surfaces with unparallelled combination spatial resolution and accuracy. And there is no need to slow down or cool off to take data---our rugged sensors work at your speeds and temperatures!

Our proprietary Chameleon software completes the solution with real-time data acquisition and visualization. Chameleon displays pressure array data in both mesh and grid formats and allows both real-time and recorded viewing. It even includes a webcam that provides video synchronized with any data display. For the ultimate in data interpretation, Chameleon supports data display on 3D meshes matching your actual surface.
