Our Sensor Catalog

PPS regularly design sensors outside our standard product lines for a wide variety of unique applications. If you haven’t found a sensor design on our website  suitable for your application, have a look through our digital sensor database which showcases a collection of some of the custom systems we’ve developed over the years which may be suitable for use in your application.

REDUCED LEAD TIMES

All products in the database have been fully developed for use with our pressure visualization software Chameleon.

  • This saves you the time and costs associated with the development of a completely custom sensor system.

  • Designs in the database are made to order with with the exception of some of our more popular designs which are kept in stock for rapid delivery.

FILTERED RESULTS

The sensor filters within the database allow you to narrow down the search criteria to your specific needs.

  • This allows you to see the sensor systems we offer which could be applicable for your application.

  • The database allows you to filter sensors by active sensor size, sensor thickness, resolution and sensor type.

  • For a guide to using the database filters click here.

Resolution - This is defined by the physical size of each sensing element within our sensors.

  • Our sensors are comprised of arrays of individual “sensing elements” whose dimensions are defined by the area of coverage between the driving and sensing electrodes.
  • This area of coverage is typically square so the resolution is the dimension of the coverage area between the two electrodes
  • We design sensors with a range of resolutions from 1mm up to 25mm.
  • Large arrays have a lower resolution to maintain the systems scan frequency at a useful rate.

WIDTH/HEIGHT - These are defined by the size of the active sensing area.

  • The active sensing area is the region of the sensor covered by the array of sensing elements.
  • Not all of our sensors are rectangular arrays. We regularly make sensors of obscure shapes with irregular array dimensions.

Thickness - This is defined by the thickness of the sensor.

  • We use different substrates of varying thickness as the dielectric between the electrodes of our sensors.
  • The substrate material and thickness in a sensor is dependant on the sensor type and the pressure range the sensor is designed to operate under.

Sensor Type - This is defined by the base sensor style and the application it is most suitable for.

  • PPS produces a number of different sensor design styles which are either rigid, flexible, conformable or stretchable.
  • Rigid sensors are flat and aren't able to be bent or wrapped around objects.
  • Flexible sensors are systems that can be bent in one direction to fit to objects. For more information on our flexible sensors look here.
  • Conformable sensors are similar to our flexible sensors but they can bend in multiple directions to fit on objects with compound curved surfaces. For more information on our conformable sensors look here.
  • Stretchable sensors are our only sensors that are capable of being stretched without a detrimental effect on output data quality. For more information on our stretchable sensors look here.
